Chris for the latest AEW. Will Dynamite be explosive? Only one way to find out....
- Jake 'The Snake' opens with an ok promo by his standards painting Cody as a coward before we get his boy, Lance Archer destroying Alan Engels (?) in a squash. Archer looks big and impressive, hitting a cool looking one-handed chokeslam suplex that was awesome.
- A great looking match next that lives up to it's potential as Britt Baker takes on Hiraku Shida. Baker plays the obnoxious, cowardly heel really well as the pair play out a well matched contest which sees the dentist shockingly busted wide open and covered in blood! There's one or two sloppy moves but overall this is an impressive battle between two of the company's top women.
Shida manages to win with a running knee to the face to continue her streak while Baker's pandering to the camera and heel schtick still gets her over (she hilariously calls out for friend 'Tony' Schvione while in pain). The blood was a nice surprise and made Baker look tough despite her antics. Big props to her but also Shida, Watch it!
- Massive build to Jake Hager/Jon Moxley for AEW title. OK promo but too long.
- Michael Nakazowa and Kenny Omega vs The Best Friends next in a disappointing, far too comedic match. Nakazowa tires a 'Magic Mike' routine with baby oil before taking his underpants off from underneath his tights and rubbing it in his opponents and, accidently, Omega faces. Tony on commentary calls it an 'unorthodox match' and he's not wrong. Some ok action but too comedic as 'Magic Mike' Nakazowa gets pinned after a spike piledriver. They all hug after the match....not their best.
- 'Marmite' Matt Hardy does his Demascus routine challenging 'hole of the arse' Chris Jericho and the rest of the Inner Circle to an 'Elite Deletion' match. Funny but again perhaps too comedic.
- Brodie Lee berates two more Dark Order members this week, this time for their attire, but offers a smartly dressed member (Lol) an unknown opportunity. He then enters in the ring and batters jobber Lee Johnson in a similar style squash to Lance Archer. Both big guys continue to build momentum.
- Main event time already as Cody takes on Shawn Spears in the opening round of the TNT title tournament. It's a good, old school match with hard hitting, back and forth action. Cody is on top early before he's suplexed onto a guard rail set up against the apron in a brutal spot. Bit of belt whipping but the 'American Nightmare' before Spears Death Valley Driver's him over the top rope and onto a table on the outside! Another cool spot.
Speaking of which Spears takes two CrossRhodes and kicks out! Big surprise but then we get another one as gets locked in the figure four and unbelievably gets pinned. When have you ever seen that happen?? Really good match overall for a match I wasn't majorly excited about. Show ends as Cody moves on and we feel a little bad for Spears as the finish made him look somewhat weak despite a strong showing in the match.
3 Count (3 Points Of Interest?)
1. Britt Baker and Hiraku Shida tearing the bloody (literally) house down
2. Decent, hard hitting Main Event.
Ring The Bell ( Show Recommendation?)
The show was pretty average as a whole, just check out the two matches above. Baker is awesome. MVP tonight. Up and coming star!
