Hey everybody! It’s Ruthie here reviewing AEW Dynamite.
The show opens up with the announcement of the matches for the TNT Championship Tournament. The matches will start next week and they are:
Shawn Spears vs Cody
Sammy Guevara vs Darby Allin
Kip Sabian vs Dustin Rhodes
Lance Archer vs Colt Cabana
AEW is being held in a smaller location with wrestlers watching and making plenty of noises. This continues to make up for there being no audience.
Trent vs Kenny Omega
Both men shake hands to show sportsmanship, but also to show this is going to be a tough match. At first it feels the match is very one sided with Omega on the offence. Trent finally gets some pace and an offence going. He does a beautiful moonsault onto Omega on the outside. Omega jumps back into the ring and then leaps onto Best Friends and takes them all out like a bowling ball! Both men are strong fighters and use all their best moves. Another beautiful outside segment is where Omega throws Trent into the barricade and then power bombs Trent into a post it stunned me. They end up back in the ring with both men being on the offence. Trent does a strong tornado DDT.Omega recovers and again it’s back and too for both men, until Trent does a reverse duplex that looks like it will break Omega’s neck! Wow, it stunned me! Omega recovers and carries out the one winged angel on Trent for the three count. A really strong and entertaining match but could of been shorter for me.
Favourite move: Trent’s moonsault
Next is a video promo looking at the developing war between Chris Jericho and Broken Matt Hardy....DELETE!
Hikaru Shida vs Anna Jayy
The Boss reckons Anna is a jobber, and I agree. For me Anna Jayy is nothing special. She does a nice Crimson roll on Shida. Shida outshines Jayy throughout the match, and the inverted suplex gets Shida the win. The match was okay but nothing to write about. Brit Baker tries to put two cents in at the end but gets shown up when Shida kicks the barricade.
Favourite move: Shida’s inverted suplex
A video promo building up the war between the Inner Circle and Jon Moxley. The promo focuses on the storyline between Hager and Moxley. A match between these two would be amazing, and we get our wish as in two weeks it’s a NO HOLDS BARRED match for the AEW World Championship.
Cabana joins Tony on commentary. Every time we see Cabana he reminds us he is a wrestler. Kind of annoying.
Lance Archer vs Marko Stunt
This match was definitely a character building match for Archer with a side show attraction feel. I say this because Lance Archer is a giant, and Marko is tiny in comparison! Marko comes out. We have a video from Jake Roberts explaining that his client Lance Archer is one to watch. Jake Roberts has a dig at Cody by saying that Brandi wears the pants in that relationship, it paints Cody as a bit of a “puss-ay”. Jake Roberts is definitely AEW’s answer to Paul Heyman. Marko is bounced around the ring, and gets a bit of an offence in with some kicks. Archer uses the blackout on Stunt and gets the three count. This match puts Archer across as major heel who is a monster and bully. He caps this idea off by throwing Marko into the other wrestlers. Poor Marko!
Favourite Move: The Blackout
Brodie Lee “The Exalted One” starts to cut an advert for people to join The Dark Order. The minions make mistakes and one even yawns! Now if you are a wrestling fan you know Vince apparently hates yawning, sneezing and coughing. Brodie flips at his minion for yawning, doing a great impression and getting some digs in at Vince. A very entertaining and funny promo.
8 and 9 “The Dark Order” vs The Natural Nightmares
I feel this match was decent but nothing special. QT Marshall teased he may join Dark Order... by pretending to put the mask on... then he punches the minion. It built The Natural Nightmares up and I guess 8 and 9 got some offence in but not much. The Natural Nightmares carried out the Double Flapjack, and Dustin pins either 8 or 9 for the three count. QT Marshall throws The a Dark Order mask on the minion. What really capped this match off was after the match Brodie Lee comes out and powerbombs one of his minions.
A really entertaining and hilarious video of Chris Jericho in his pool rippling The Elite to shreds. He makes a cultural referral to the documentary The Tiger King by calling Cody....CODY EXOTIC. I laughed my head off at this. Vanguard comes and hovers over Jericho, and Jericho offers the drone a top. Jericho tries to get Vanguard to join the Inner Circle by giving Vanguard a top. Vanguard starts to fly off and Jericho release the “hounds” which included a chihuahua. This promo brightened my day up and had me in hysterics of laughter.
There is a video sharing the progress of Nick Jackson. Good to see Jackson improving.
MAIN EVENT TIME
Sammy Guevara and Shawn Spears vs Darby Allin and Cody
This match is full of needless spots, however, it is full of some amazing spots. One of my favourite spots of the match is when Cody is thrown to the outside of the ring where the heels are. Brit Baker takes her actual heel off and started to beat Cody up...get it, heel? That made me laugh. Sammy and Soears showboated by also doing some long vertical suplexes. Darby does an amazing coffin drop from a 10ft pole! WTF? The match is ended with a surprise roll up by Spears who gets the three count. Darby punches Cody after the match. Darby at points throughout the match looked annoyed at Cody. I can see a new storyline developing between these two. This match got all 4 wrestlers over and made them look super strong.
Favourite move: Coffin drop from the pole
3 Count (3 points of Interest)
1) Lance Archer vs Marko Stunt
2) Brodie Lee promo
3) Chris Jericho promo
Ring the Bell (Show recommendation)
I recommend you watch this show if you want to keep up with the storylines. The show was enjoyable but some of the matches felt too long. Overall the show was really good and made the wrestlers look strong. You should escape into the world of AEW.
