Hey everybody! It’s Ruthie here reviewing AEW.
We open the show with a video of Jake Roberts reminding us how attention grabbing Lance Archer is. Reminding us of what an animal Archer is. Basically building Archer up to be a tough SOB.
For a second week in a row we open AEW up with a Lance Archer match.
Quarter Final Match for the TNT Championship.
Colt Cabana vs Lance Archer.
I have to get this off my chest, Lance Archer is super tough, but why does he look like a genie? Lance comes out and wipes someone out in the audience continuing to make him look like the monster.
This match was very strong making both men look good. You can see that both wrestlers have travelled the world, and their wrestling has been influenced by Japan, China, and Europe. Both men are on the offence. Archer comes out on top by using the Black Out. Archer gets the three count and wins the match.
Both men looked strong and you can tell these men will go far in the company.
Favourite Move: Black Out by Archer.
Britt Baker promo video reminding us what a role model she is. She really is hilarious and a really great heel.
There is a video of people predicting who will win between Hager and Moxley.
Taz talks through a video package of Hager’s moves.
Cassandra Golden vs Britt Baker
This was a squash match. There was some great super kicks from Britt Baker. She went on to stomp on Golden’s face on the ropes. This broke Golden’s teeth. Baker is creating her own dentist patients. Bakers gets the three count. This match was a bit boring. Britt Baker is great and can play a crowd. I feel Britt is one of the best heels around today.
Favourite move: The super kicks by Baker
Another video of more people saying who they think will win the Hager vs Moxley match. The majority are saying Hager will win.
Some comedic relief from The Bubbly Bunch. There is a conference call going on between the Inner Circle. Some of the funny moments included Ortiz sitting in his child’s bedroom surrounded by cuddly toys. Hager covering his children’s ears to swear and Chris Jericho spilling orange juice. The most hilarious moment was when Jericho ended the conference call and called his assistant demanding toilet roll!
Suge-d vs Sammy Guevara
This match was very confusing. It really didn’t get either of the wrestlers across. Sammy was mainly on the offence and just bounced Suge-d around. This was meant to be Suge-d debut. What a flop. Sammy Guevara uses the inverted torture rack and knees to the face this knocked Suge-d out and Sammy gets the three count. Sammy gets on the mic and starts talking smack about Darby Allin. Sammy goes back to beating Suge-d and Darby Allin runs to the ring. Sammy being the weasel he is runs off. Great heel work!
Favourite move: No favourite move
Another video of people saying who win out of Hager and Moxley.
Kip Sabian vs Chuck Taylor
Another boring match. It just felt like a filler. I found it so hard to pay attention to this match. Sabian’s wrestling is definitely influence by the European style because of Sabian being from the UK. Both men were on the offence then it turned into chaos. On the outside Cassidy was spiked by Jimmy Havoc. In the ring Penelope Ford Frankensteined Chuck then Kip got the three count. This match was boring and the ending was chaotic...DELETE!
More people saying who they think will win between Hager and Moxley, and again the majority think Hager.
Justin Law vs Shawn Spears
Another squash match. Again this was a nothing match and very boring. Spears does a running C4 and gets the three count.
NO FAVOURITE MOVE
Final video of more people predicting Hager to win. I think Moxley will win. The boss think Moxley will win with the Paradigm shift.
MAIN EVENT TIME
Empty Arena and No Holds barred match for the AEW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Jake Hager vs Jon Moxley
We were jumping around to Moxley’s music! The match was amazing. WWE take note of how to do a match in an empty arena. You don’t need lorries! As Jim Cornette said he wanted to see two men beating each other up in the ring, and this is what you mainly got.
In the ring both wrestlers used MMA submissions and moves. On the outside Moxley did a figure 4 to Hager around a metal post. This was a flash back to Bret Hart. There was metal barricades around the ring but like Jim Ross says 'Why are they there.' There was some chair shots but not too many. The match played to both wrestlers strength’s and made both wrestlers look strong. Hager looks amazing using submission moves, especially the triangle hold. The pace of the match was really good and kept you hooked. As the boss predicted Moxley used the Paradigm Shift onto a chair. Hager was knocked out. Moxley gets the three count and retains the title!
This is a must see match and I love the MMA style. Both wrestlers were tough and believable. I don’t think this is the end of storyline between Moxley and the Inner Circle.
3 Count (3 points of interest)
There are only two points of interest.
1. The Bubbly Bunch video
2. Hager vs Moxley
Ring the Bell (Show recommendation)
The show was good but there was only a couple of highlights as listed above. The show was a bit slow and it only really picked up towards the end. I would recommend the show, but just go straight to my recommendations. You won’t be missing much. Once you have watched this go and enjoy the beautiful weather in your garden. I am off to read Under the Black Hat by Jim Ross.
