Wrestlemania 36 4th/5th April 2020

Hey guys, Chris back to give you a quick review of Wrestlemania 36. After 8+ hours or whatever it was over the weekend, I'll get through what you need to see and need to know quickly, I'm not gonna milk this ala'  WWE. Let's run through the best, the basic and the bad together.

The Best Matches/What You Need To See

- The best pure match for me was Charlotte vs Rhea Ripley. The well matched duo gave us a classic, old school 20 minute contest with Ripley keeping up with the Queen, selling the knee pretty well (perhaps a little too much) and giving her a carrot to chase now Charlotte is NXT champ. Controversial winner maybe, but the match was stellar and the best in ring in my opinion.

- The best segment was the Firefly Funhouse Match. Entertaining and creative as hell, John Cena and Bray Wyatt put their heart and soul into this piece. Credit to Cena for going all in on the run through his career, warts and all, and massive props to Bray for being the charismatic ringmaster, getting his mojo back after the Goldberg Saudi debacle. Hilarious, fantastical, imaginative and compelling. We get Cena in 02', Saturday Night's Main Event in 80's, rap heel Cena, and Cena in 90's NWO all tied into a Wrestlemania 30 rematch. No secret I'm a huge Wyatt fan and this was the ultimate showcase for his creative mind. Plus he got to rightly air his grievances over how he's been held back and should have been used better. Awesome, loved it all, well done to everyone involved.

- The Triple Threat Ladder Match was an incredible contest with some great spots and a tonne of effort by the three guys. A great spectacle, a definite watch.

- Owens/Rollins was another great match. Two hugely talented wrestlers giving it their all. Owens has a Mania moment with a massive jump off the Mania logo onto Rollins on a table. Well matched and pretty entertaining, nice to see Owens finally get some love too.

- The Undertaker/AJ Styles segment was decent. I'm not as high on it as a lot of people, it was a fun watch but a little too over the top for my taste. I laughed at how cheesy some bits were aka the AJ hand through the grave and Taker chucking people from a roof, and cringed at other parts. Overall though, as a spectacle, as one of the Undertaker's final attractions, you should check it out.

The Basic/OK Segments

- The women's tag match was a decent opener, lots of effort but nothing special. Still love seeing Asuka, she's always amazing.

- The 5-way women's match was a solid watch but again nothing too memorable. No Sasha turn. No new champ. No need to definitely watch.

The Rest

- Elias, Aleister Black, and The Street Profits matches were nothing.

- Didn't like the Otis angle. Not really into taking the piss out of a guy for being fat and seemingly mentally limited.

- Becky and Shayna. Disappointing and really underwhelming. Did nothing for either especially Shayna.

- Ditto Bryan/Zayn. Two HUGELY talented guys gave us basically 9 minutes of nothing. Again, really underwhelming for these two fantastic wrestlers.

- Edge/Orton was boring as hell and really badly booked. Walk and brawl for 35 minutes. Wrong choice and it massively backfired. Feel a little sorry for Edge.

- The two title matches were not really matches let's be frank. Hit your finisher 3 or 4 times, kick out. Hit mine 4 times, win. Hooray what a pair of classic Mania WWE championship contests. Hate these quick, nothing 'matches'. Goldberg should be NOWHERE near this, it's ridiculous at his age. Him and Brock can't do anything, GIVE YOUNGER GUYS A CHANCE AT MANIA! Drew McIntyre and Braun Strowman were put over but will they be here long term? Who knows. Goldberg/Brock fought for the WWE title 3 years and they're STILL here so don't get your hopes up. Enough with these video game, hit your finisher a million times and that's it matches. Lazy.

Ring The Bell (Show Recommendation?)

Watch the three matches I recommended and definitely the Firefly Funhouse segment. The Taker one for the spectacle. For me, can skip all the rest. Was an ok Mania if you factor in all of the circumstances, but there was a lot of disappointing and underwhelming contests. Plus lazy booking in a lot of places. Don't watch the full show, there's a couple of highlights but ultimately too much filler.
