In July 2015 the women’s “revolution” started. They introduced three women to Raw who would change the business: Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks. In August 2016 Bayley also joined Raw and the “Four Horsewomen” were back together. As a wrestling fan I truly think these four women have endless talent and are some of the strongest women in the wrestling industry.
The query I now have, is shouldn’t WWE be pushing more women rather than the same four?
Since Wrestlemania 32 until Wrestlemania 36 all four women have been in some sort of match for either the Women’s Smackdown or Raw Championship. At last Wrestlemania Charlotte Flair challenged for the NXT Women’s Championship! I get what they were doing, they were getting Rhea Ripley over, however, Ripley was already over!
In my opinion WWE has the strongest women’s roster but they have no idea what to do with them especially in the lead up to Wrestlemania. In the lead up to Wrestlemania 37 we are now finally seeing more of the women who we do not usually see. On Raw Talk we’ve seen Peyton Royce, Dana Brookes and Mandy Rose, but wait a minute.... why aren’t they in the ring? Peyton Royce cut one hell of a promo on Raw Talk but why wasn’t she allowed five minutes in the ring to cut this promo! We’ve seen Flair in the ring cutting her promo.
It’s not just me noticing WWE. Hell even Peyton Royce’s Mum, Kerrie, commented on a tweet posted by Charlotte Flair about the promo she had cut. Kerrie commented “Of course you do. How about giving others a try.”
She’s right. The other women deserve a chance! This revolution was never meant to be just about four women, it should of been about the whole women’s roster, and letting ALL the women show what they can do. The women in WWE, in my opinion, aren’t allowed enough creative freedom, in fact the male roster isn’t allowed creative freedom.
Peyton Royce finally had a match with Asuka on the most recent Raw and she was allowed to show a small part of her wrestling skills, but I think there is still more to come from her. Rhea Ripley is now challenging Asuka for the Raw women’s championship, and on Smackdown we are seeing Bel Air challenge for the Smackdown Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania. Hopefully Asuka, Banks, Flair and even Bayley will now take a back seat in wrestling and allow the younger women to show their skill.
Raw and Smackdown are long enough shows to put women promos and matches on. Recently instead we’ve had Nickelodeon off Shane McMahon. Oh and how could we forget the sing along with Elias and McMahon! COME ON! GET A GRIP! We want to see more of the women wrestle and cut promos. Not performances that only Vinny and Co find amusing! The creativity at WWE is either strict, lazy or both. I’ve been a WWE fan since aged eight! They have the strongest women’s division and they need to use it; otherwise female talent will leave. A great example is Deanna Piazzo, at the beginning of 2020 she was wrestling for NXT and she left to go to Impact, Guess what? She is now Impact Women’s Champion because Impact in MY opinion seem to turn talent around. Deonna was stifled at WWE and now look at her thrive on Impact.
WWE you tell girls and female teenagers they can be anything and do anything yet you hold your female talent back. That is hypocrisy and that’s wrong!
You are pushing the same women and it’s time you allowed more women to forfill their potential! Let’s see the whole women’s roster at their best. I hope after Wrestlemania this will happen.
As Steve Austin says that is the bottom line.
